LHS ATHLETICS HALL OF FAME CLASS OF 2022 ANNOUNCED

You can join them as they're recognized at halftime of the Varsity Boys Basketball game Friday, January 13 (7:15pm vs. West Clermont)

The Lebanon High School Athletics Hall of Fame Committee has announced the induction class of 2022.  These seven deserving individuals will be formally inducted at a special brunch at Shaker Run Golf Club on Saturday, January 14th.

STEVE POITINGER: Steve coached at Lebanon High School from 1986-2015.  Four of those years he was a women's soccer coach winning 51 games, earning one conference championship, and one sweet sixteen appearance in 1989 with a 1-0 loss to Lakota.  He then took over the helm of the men's soccer program, where he was the head coach for 24 years. Coach Poitinger won over 200 games, including a district championship in 2009 with a 2-1 win over nationally ranked Centerville. He was district Coach of the Year in 2002 and 2009.  Steve was also the men's track and field coach.  As the track coach, Steve collected numerous accolades including 18 conference titles, and numerous district and regional top 15 placements.  He coached 28 all state athletes, 15 school record holders, a DI state champion relay team and too many district champions to count.  He was named Conference Coach of the Year 18 times in three different leagues (MML, FAVC, GWOC).   His commitment to Lebanon Athletics and Lebanon City Schools is filled with many highlights and memories. 


BOB HARVILLE:  Bob, a 1979 graduate of LHS earned 10 Varsity letters. Three of those were in football where he was a member of the 1977 undefeated MML championship team. Bob was named MML first team defensive end, Southwest district first team defensive end, and second team All State defensive end in 1978.  As a wrestler he earned three Varsity letters and was a member of the 1978 and 1979 MML championship teams.  He was an individual MML champion, a district finalist, state qualifier, team MVP and recorded the most pins and most team points in 1979.  As a member of the LHS track team he earned 4 Varsity letters. His accolades include being a two time MML champion and district finalist in the 440 yard dash. He was a member of the mile relay team that set a school record, and an MML champion in the 880 relay.  Along with being voted team MVP, he also earned the honor of being named Athlete of the Year in 1979.  
After high school Bob attended and wrestled at Miami University where he earned a BS in Business Management. After college he coached wrestling for four years and has been a wrestling official for 25 years. 


EDDIE NOBLE:  Eddie, a 1986 graduate of LHS, was a four time varsity wrestling letterman.  On the mat, he was an MML champion every year, and a member of the 1986 MML championship team.  Eddie was a two time sectional runner up  and a two time sectional champion.  He qualified for district all four years and was a three time district champion.  He qualified for state three times, placing fourth in 1985.  During his senior year he was projected to be a state champion, but came down with the flu.  Throughout his career at Lebanon, he recorded 105 wins, 17 losses, 39 pins and 5 invitational titles.  Eddie was voted Most Valuable Team Member in 1985 and 1986 and was the first wrestler to record 100 wins at LHS. 


ZACH BURNS: A 1995  graduate of Lebanon High School, Zach earned five Varsity letters. As a baseball player he earned two of those letters and was named to the All Western Star team in 1994.  Injured for his senior season he still served as a captain of the baseball team .  A three time Varsity letterman in football, Zach was named first team All Western Star and All League Honorable Mention in 1993 and 1994.  He recorded over 100 tackles his junior season and was elected captain his senior year. 
After high school Zach was a four year letterman, three year starter for the Brown University football team. He was second team All Ivy League in 1997, first team All Ivy League in 1998 and first team All American that same year. Zach participated in the Blue-Gray Bowl game his senior season. Zach was inducted into the Brown University Athletic Hall of Fame in 2012. 


DEREK HELLMANN:  Derek was a 2008 graduate of LHS who earned four Varsity letters in men's basketball. He was a member of the GWOC championship teams in 2006 and 2008.  He earned first team all GWOC and was named GWOC Athlete of the Aear in 2007 and in 2008.  Derek was third on the all-time scorers  list, and was first on Lebanon's all-time rebounds list. Named first team All Dayton, Derek was awarded District 15 Player of the Year. During his senior year, he was honorable mention All State and a McDonald's All American nominee. 
After high school, Derek attended Florida Tech University on a full athletic scholarship.  He lettered all four years, earned Freshman of Year Conference honors, and was a Freshman All American. He was on the All Conference team twice and his team earned the first outright conference championship.  He graduated with a BS in Business Administration. 


BETHANY CAMPBELL: A 2010 graduate of LHS, Bethany earned four varsity letters in golf, and three varsity letters in softball. As a golfer,  she was named GWOC South Division Special Mention in 2008 and 2009, but it is her time on the LHS softball team that earned her many of her honors.   During her softball career, she earned GWOC Special Mention Team her sophomore year. Her junior and senior years she was named GWOC South Division First Team, First Team All Conference and South Division Athlete of the Year.  In 2008 she was a member of the team that competed in the Elite 8.  In 2009 and 2010, she was a member of the teams that competed in the Sweet Sixteen where she earned second team All State in 2009 and first team All State in 2010.  On the mound she accumulated 59 wins, 29 of those  in a single season.  She notched  556 career strikeouts, 25 career shutouts and 4 perfect games.  Her career ERA was 0.52.  At the plate Bethany had a career batting average of .381, she was part of the 100 hit club, and held the record for most home runs in one game with three. 
After high school, Bethany played softball for the University of the Cumberlands for one season and went on to Miami University to obtain a BS in Business Management. 


HAYLEY STEGEMILLER: A 2012 graduate of LHS, Hayley received nine Varsity letters in three different sports. She earned a Varsity letter in basketball and four each in cross country and track. Hayley was an All Conference cross country runner throughout her four years at Lebanon. She qualified for state her freshman year and placed tenth in the state meet her senior year.  As a track and field athlete, Hayley placed third in the 4x800 relay, fourth in the 4x400 relay and seventh in the open 800 at the state track meet her junior year. She returned to state her senior year qualifying in the high jump, and placed sixth in both the 4x800 relay and the open 800.  Hayley was named the Greater Cincinnati-Northern Kentucky Women's Sports Association Track and Field Athlete of the Year in 2011-12. All four years she earned Academic All-Ohio honors. 
After high school, Hayley competed in indoor and outdoor track all four years while attending Ohio University. She was a four time conference meet qualifier in indoor track and a three time qualifier in outdoor track.  She was the school record holder for the indoor 4x400. Haley was Academic All-MAC for four years.  During her time at O.U., she earned a BS in Communication, Science and Disorders and went on to graduate from the University of Cincinnati with a Doctorate of Audiology.
